Wind-blown hair

This was the result of a research project based off work by Sylvia Ji and Russ Mills. It's been turned into a photo-based print on a copper plate with puretch film. It took me about 8 hours to do the plate that is 12"x18"

OCADU Printmaking Exhibition!

So I've submitted two pieces to the OCADU Printmaking Exhibition at John M. Parrott Gallery in Belleville, ON.

1. "Dwelling"

This work demonstrates dwelling on the past, when two sides of my family were together. For me, this is weird to think about, so I used an image containing a clown -- a figure many people are afraid of. This is up for $50.
2.

This is a rubylith cut screen print. 4 colours. Gold, cream, dark red, and brownish black. The girl has antlers and deer ears as an obvious way to show she's different. She's trapped in the picture frame because she feels like everyone judges her because of how she looks. Also, the off registration is intentional. She's not the type of person that's all lined up. This is up for $75.

Geisha

Geisha's are pretty. I chose to use an image of one for my first screenprint. 3 colours. It was so hard to get this to register properly, but I think it's decent.

Gypsy!

I've really been interested in tattoo flash lately, so of course when I got an open ended assignment, I jumped on tattoo style drawings. Lithography resulted in this gypsy lady that I printed 10 in black and 10 in red. This was an estisol transfer. The first edition was printed in black, and the second in red. I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out. I do prefer the black ones though.

Nana

I thought it'd be a brilliant idea to take an old photo of a family member and cover them in tattoos.

I'm quite pleased with the results. This is a photo-based lithograph, while the tattoos are painted on in gouache. The teardrop is metaphorical of mourning, since the lovely lady in the photo has passed. This piece was done for Contemporary Issues, and was put through a series of trials. Covering my great grandma in tattoos was my way of reconnecting with her in a sense.

Open Studio AP Sale

Thinking of submitting this to the Open Studio AP Sale. Relief Print from the spring of a chihuahua with a top hat, monocle, mustache and bowtie. I find him to be quite cute.

Some older work.

I did this painting over the summer when I completely reversed my sleep schedule again and wasn't working much. Also, listening to Andrew W.K. songs on repeat and studying the album cover helped a bit. I'm pretty pleased with how the blood turned out, but not so much the hair. Too flat. Meh. The hair and blood were done in gouache, the face done in gouache and watercolour, and the background and darker areas were done in ink. I've been considering going in and reworking a few areas.
